Brandy’s ability to take risks has developed over time, the result of balancing calculated decision-making with a willingness to step outside of her comfort zone. When she started Modern House Numbers with her husband, Rick McLain, Brandy stepped away from her position in planning and architecture to take the reins of the operation. It was a difficult decision, but Brandy learned that embracing uncertainty is necessary for growth. Ultimately, her decision to follow her passion and take the risk of starting a business is one of the best and most fulfilling decisions she’s made.

Brandy has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and dreamed of running her own business. The inspiration and motivation behind their business was spurred by a challenge they faced toward the end renovating their first home in 2007. Looking to add a modern design element to the exterior, they searched for bold address numbers and, to their surprise, couldn’t find anything they liked. With backgrounds in architecture and construction, they decided to make their own. A steady stream of neighbors, friends and strangers began knocking on their door to ask where they purchased the numbers and the seed to start their own small business was planted. Modern House Numbers was started in 2008, with the mission to provide beautiful addressing products, made with durable materials and a straightforward installation process. Fifteen years later, they’re still custom manufacturing each order as it is received and are known for their timeless collection of modern numbers, letters, symbols, plaques, signs and decals in 7 fonts and 5 finishes that look beautiful on any architectural style.

Brandy offers advice to others on the journey of entrepreneurship, and credits three essential qualities that have led to her success in a highly competitive environment. The first is passion.
